Fuata Yako Moyo (Follow Your Heart)

Lately I have been thinking a lot about all of the changes that have happened in my life during the past year. When I graduated high school, I never thought that my life would be were it is right now, but I am so grateful for it. This past year has been filled with many ups and downs, confusion, being both scared and excited at times, and many life lessons. I think the biggest thing that I have learned though is sometimes the most crazy and illogical ideas turn out to be the best thing for you. I truly believe that life is about taking risks, and the greater the risk, the greater the reward. Usually these risks are incredibly hard, but if they weren't, they probably wouldn't matter to us as much.

Follow your heart. Sometimes when you're scared and confused, and you just don't know what to do, this is all you can do. That's what I did. Whether it be for school, career, or love, follow your heart. Yes, it is very easy to listen to your head because that is usually the safe way and will protect you from getting hurt, but your heart allows you to take risks. Sometimes these risks may not turn out the way you hoped, and you may get hurt, but someday, probably when you least expect it, they will pay off, and you'll start feeling like the pieces of your life are finally falling into place, and it will make all the pain and hurt that much more worthwhile. And to those of us who usually tend to put everyone else ahead of ourselves, sometimes, you have to take a step back, put everyone else out of your mind, and do what is best for you.

And when it comes to love, again, when you least expect it, someone will walk into your life who makes you feel incredible. The kind of incredible that makes you want to be a better person. And when you find them, and you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach that there really could be something real there, fight for it. No matter how complicated either of your lives are. And if you aren't sure what to do, ask yourself this - If you were to walk away now because you're scared, confused, or you just think that it's too hard, 20 years from now, would you regret it? If the answer is yes, then make the effort, because if it is truly meant to be, you'll find a way to make it work, not matter how hard it is.

But always remember - Fuata Yako Moyo
