Poverty is a Four Letter Word

Currently, there are over 7 billion people living on Earth. Out of those 7 billion, almost everyone living in poverty is fundamentally from a lack of options.

These statistics show that poverty divides us. If the world were represented by 100 people, it would look like this:

60 would be Asian
14 would be African
12 would be European
8 would be Latin American
5 would be American or Canadian
1 would be from the South Pacific

Or:

51 would be male
49 would be female

Or:

82 would be non-white
18 would be white

Or:

67 would be non-Christian
33 would be Christian

40% of the world's people live off of $1 a day or less. The average American lives off of over $100 a day.
"These are the daily realities of the world's poor. No matter how hard they work, how gifted they are, or how big their dreams, the poor have few choices and even fewer opportunities to fulfill their God-given potential. These precious human beings...have been left behind and cast on the garbage dump of history by circumstances they cannot change. We must never say it is their fault. How dare we?" --The Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns
